At Creative Minds Learning Center, we believe that learning can and should be done differently. We strive to create a learning environment that can foster growth, while also allowing students to be themselves and make meaningful connections with others.
Maria Montessori had it right. She believed that as educators, our aim is not simply to make students understand, nor is it to force them to memorize, but instead, to endeavour to touch their imagination and ignite their enthusiasm, right to their innermost core.
We believe that children can learn at their own pace and are able to understand concepts and focus more when exploring areas of interest. This means creating a nurturing environment that allows students to be creative, explorative, inquisitive and most important, an environment that lets them have fun and be kids.
Some of our core beliefs are that:
- Students thrive with smaller student to teacher ratios
- It is important to allow child-led interests to come through
- Allowing each child’s unique personality to develop is a critical part of their growth
- Activity based, hands on, sensory learning must be at the core of the learning experience
- There should be a balance between structured activities and free play
- Students should be given every opportunity to grow their natural love of learning and curiosity
- Every student should be given specialized attention
- It is important to give students hands on skills for life: financial, literacy, numeracy, gardening, cooking, social and most important, how to learn and stay excited about learning.
- We must teach students how to succeed as well as learn and grow from mistakes,
- A good education is a mix of outdoor focused education, the Montessori program, the Waldorf education methods, all while offering the caring environment of homeschool.
